Workshops on nearly Zero- Energy Buildings (nZEBs) and the creation of Energy Communitie

The Municipality of Arta successfully organized in Arta on Tuesday 05 October 2021 two thematic workshops on the integration of modern energy technologies in building infrastructure, in the framework of the project "Greece cOllaborates with ALbania for nZEBs, (GOAL – nZEBs)", funded by the Territorial Cooperation Program: Interreg VA Greece-Albania 2014-2020.

The workshops were conducted by specialized staff from the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources & Savings (CRES) and the Regional Development Fund of Western Macedonia. These are Partners in the GOAL nZEBs project alongside the Municipality of Arta and the official body for these issues from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of Albania.

The first workshop concerned the general public and the pilot actions carried out in the Municipality of Arta were analyzed in depth as follows:
  • Innovative installation of a closed vertical system of a geothermal heat pump in the 1st Primary School of Arta.
  • New frames with thermal break and energy glazing at the 1st High School of Arta.
  • Electricity meter and fuel meter at the 1st High School of Arta.
  • Photovoltaic power of 4 kW in the Roof of the City Hall of Arta.
  • System for recording and displaying energy units at the City Hall of Arta.
  • Replacement of lighting at the City Hall of Arta with new LED technology lighting.

The second workshop was addressed to professionals of the construction industry and concerned the options of creating building infrastructures of almost zero energy consumption (nZEBs buildings), and the implementation of networks and energy communities.

Under the workshop’s framework, the functions of the project’s online platform were also presented. This represents an innovative approach that supports the dialog as well public sector decisions in the cross-border area on implementation issues of nZEBs, as well as energy communities. The module "Analyzing" has been developed where data collected from the 3 pilot areas (Arta, Gjirokastra, Western Macedonia) and other areas of the cross-border Region of Greece and Albania are analyzed. The module "Approaching" has also been developed and approximates the philosophy and requirements for buildings of near zero energy consumption (nZEBs), in the context of European, Greek and Albanian contemporary policies. The GOAL nZEBs Project Partnership has made good use of the data collected and analysed. The presentation of the 12 components that affect the further development of the nZEBS in each geographical point of the cross-border region of Greece and Albania has been completed.

The event was greeted by the Mayor of Arta who exchanged views with the participants for the further possibility of using the technologies of Renewable Energy Sources - Energy Saving in the area. An interesting discussion followed and the actions of the GOAL nZEBs  project were presented in depth.

The event was broadcasted live for those who could not attend in person, on the web channel of the Municipality of Arta ARTA WebTV (
